Can anyone advise thanksYou will need to retain any other Product Keys – so download and install Belarc Advisor, and run it – copy the section on Product Keys (ignore the Windows one – it will do no good) for safety. The run the manufacturer’s recovery system – check the manual for details, as each manufacturer has their own method. It will automatically reformat the Windows drive deleting all data and programs, and then reinstall Windows.

SSDT PTLTD POWERNOWAs you suspected, you need the Product Key from the COA sticker to make the system genuine again. The problem appears to be that the license in the OS has been ‘lost’ somehow – possibly by overuse of a registry cleaner, or file-deletion app, or from malware. The OS requires that license to be able to self-activate the OEM_SLP Key that the machine came with, and so it failed when that information when AWOL.Unfortunately, in such circumstances the only alternative to changing the Key to the one on the Sticker is a clean reinstall using the manufacturer’s Recovery system – which means backing up all data to external media for safe-keeping wile the system reformats the drive and reinstalls.Try using a bright light and a magnifying glass to read the sticker – I find it helps enormously.
