Suggested function to add in SyncToy - Space Economy Mode RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • I suggest to add to SyncToy a new mode - "space economy mode".

If folders pair created in this mode - user select one of folders (Right or Left) to which the "space economy mode" will be applied and select some SUBfolders, which will be synchronized as usual (as defined in selected action synchronize, echo or contribute) with no exceptions ("conventional" folders). For any OTHER subfolders (not marked as "conventional") SyncToy will apply special algorythm as described below:

While created folders pair in "space economy mode" user provide a time period (in hours, days or months) till now. Within this period if folders NOT marked as "conventional" - all data will be synchronized as usual ONLY if files are changed, created or deleted. BUT for unchanged files which was unchanged for a long time (more then a user defined period) SyncToy must delete such unchanged files from folder, on which "Space economy mode" applied, BUT mark this files in SyncToy catalog by special manner, as "deleted by space economy mode". Such deletions will not replicated as usual deletions. Files (and folders) deleted by "space economy mode" will not assumed as really deleted. It's will be specially journalled and deleted for space economy.

As a result: "space economy mode"will be compact and hold recent data. This mode very suitable for synchronizing with flash drive.
