Importing data from spreadsheet

Question
-
Hi all, I am looking to carry out the following:
1) Create a email campaign based on contacts already added to dynamics (this I already know how to do)
2) Import a list of email addresses (thats all thats been supplied) and send out a html email to those within the list (not too sure how to do this).
If point 2 cannot be actioned is this possible?:
1) Have your contacts already created, these contacts already have email addresses. (this I already know how to do)
2) Using the spreadsheet with email addresses add this as lead but flag if email address already is stored as a contact.....either it will not import this email address as a lead or you are notified of duplicate to go on and remove.
3) Combine the contacts/leads into an email campaign (can you combine the two types).
Your help would be much appreciated.

You can import the addresses as leads and the duplicate rules can be run to check for dupes against the contacts in the system. If you use a Campaign you can then bring in the leads and contacts as marketing lists and then apply a campaign activity to them (one at a time but still possible).

FWIW...email campaigns where all you have are email addresses is in violation of CAN-SPAM Act.
That being said, if you have these people in your client database already, you can do one of two things:
- Use a tool like c360 or Scribe to import entities more easily than using the CRM import/update tool
- Use a process that involves getting the Contacts out of CRM to Excel, using VLOOKUP to isolate the contacts which are part of this email list, re-importing/updating these records with a new custom field that you will use to find these records later. Use that field to add them to the marketing list

Thanks Leon, I am going to look at the duplicate detection rules and how these work. I am fairly new to this so trying to get a grasp on what CRM has to offer.Monday, March 15, 2010 12:17 PM
