Can't find "automated phone system" option when trying to solve error code 0xC004E003 in Vista Ultimate Activation RRS feed

  • Question

  • A few days ago I installed some windows updates and now my computer asks for Windows Activation product key every time I boot. (I have a genuine copy of Windows Ultimate and it was pre-installed when i bought it.)When I type in the product key I get this error.

So I referred Microsoft Support (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/931276) and according to them if you get this type of error you have to go to "Change Product Key" in System Properties and enter the product key there. When I did this, the same error occurs. The next suggestion Microsoft gave if the above didn't work  was to, use an option called "Automated Phone System" which according to them you can find by the following steps.

    1. Click Start
      the Start button
      , and then click Computer.
    2. Click System properties on the toolbar, and then click Click here to activate Windows now in the Windows activation section.

      User Account Control permission
If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click Continue.
    3. Click Show me other ways to Activate.
    4. Click Use the automated phone system, and then follow the instructions that are provided.

I can't find "Show me other ways to Activate" nor "Use the automated phone system" w    hen I go to System Properties and click "15 days to Activate. Activate now". (I clicked this because I couln't find an option called " Click here to activate Windows now"). Instead I get the Windows Activation dialog box with only three options. That is

    • Buy a new product key online
    • Type a different product key
    • Contact Microsoft to help resolve this problem. (when I click this it  opens Windows help and support).

I really need to find the "Automated Phone System" option because I think thats the only way to solve this problem. So please give me a solution to this before the 15 days expire.

As far as I can tell, there is no suitable BIOS update available which may fix this – try contacting Acer direct and asking if they have a BIOS update with the Vista SLIC table present. If they do, then try installing that one and see if it fixes the problem.

If not, then your only option is to try a Factory Recovery process using the Acer media (see your manual for details). That may work (or it may not, as it looks as if your BIOS has no SLIC table at all) – you MUST back up all data to external media first, as this will delete all data on the drive

If that doesn’t work, then your only option (if your PC is out of warranty) is to purchase a new Full Retail license for Windows.

It’s likely that there are other problems – please provide an MGADiag report.
To properly analyse and solve problems with Activation and Validation, we need to see a full copy of the report produced by the MGADiag tool (download and save to desktop - http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 )
    Once saved, run the tool.
Click on the Continue button, which will produce the report.
To copy the report to your response, click on the Copy button in the tool (ignore any error messages at this point), and then paste (using either r-click/Paste, or Ctrl+V ) into your response.

You are currently using the OEM_SLP Product Key that came with your computer – this Key requires that a proper SLIC table be present in the BIOS to be able to self-activate in conjunction with certificates in the OS. For some reason, your PC is unable to properly read the SLIC table, and as a result is showing as being non-genuine.
The solution is to change the Product Key to the on on your COA sticker on the machine’s case, using the Change Product Key link at the bottom of the System properties page  - you may then have to activate by phone.

You should also note that your installation of Office is non-genuine, being based on a Blocked Volume License Key.

That may work (or it may not, as it looks as if your BIOS has no SLIC table at all) – you MUST back up all data to external media first, as this will delete all data on the drive
