WHS and VPN connections RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have two windows 7 computer with VPN access. Windows home server disconnects after a while once these computers utilize the VPN connection. I have two internet connections at home (1 GBps Each) and i hate when the server gets disconnected because of the VPN. What can i do to keep my computers connected to WHS and access my VPN without getting disconnected from WHS in the network? im thinkin maybe i need like two routers and two switches for networks or utilize wireless connection for the VPN service (open and PPTP), and keep the server connected VIA NIC on the computers? • I would suggest you ask your employer's IT department (I assume you're using a VPN for work reasons). What you want to ask is this:

When I connect to the company VPN from a home computer, I lose contact with some local resources (printers, shared folders, etc.). How do I configure my connection so that I can retain access to local resources?

However, I'll warn you that your company's IT department may say "You can't." because many VPNs are intentionally configured to block local network access to prevent exposing the workplace to the entire home network and vice versa.

You may also want to ask in the Windows 7 forums ...
I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)
