The set of file mismatches above are typical of one of three causes:-
    1) a restore from an image backup of the system
    2) a failed driver update
    3) a disabled Cryptographic service
The main one for which we currently have a solution is the second.....
Installing the Intel Rapid Storage Drivers
try downloading and installing them from here -
Once complete, please reboot twice, then post another MGADiag report.
Note that if this set of drivers fails to install, there is a second set that could also cure the problem – from

  • The Intel link results in a page not found.

Searching the Intel site for Intel Rapid Storage Drivers returns 18 links, and I have no idea which one to select.  Do you have any additional information?

Intel must have changed the page *again*!

  • I have downloaded the driver from Intel, and reboot twice.

This is the current Diagnostic after the dual reboot.

Did the driver actually install – or did you get an error message when you tried?
    The report hasn’t changed.

Odd – OK, so let’s look at the Crypto service.
Look in the console for the Cryptographic Service, right-click on it and select Properties. Is it running?
If not, make sure that the Startup is set to Automatic, and click Apply.

Try starting the service now - do you get an error message? Does it start? does it almost immediately stop again?

please open an Admin Command Prompt (Start > All Programs > Accessories> right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run as Admin) and enter the following commands

    SC QC CRYPTSVC

    SC QUERYEX CRYPTSVC

    SC SDSHOW CRYPTSVC

copy and paste the results back here.(to copy the results... click on the Black/White icon in the top left, and select Edit... 'Select All', and hit the Enter key - then use Ctrl+V or r-click+Paste to paste it into your response.)

Post your results, together with a new MGADiag report

Odd – it’s the first time for a while that we’ve had one where the driver set hasn’t fixed the problem.
The Cryptsvc looks normal to me.
Perhaps it would be best to completely uninstall the Intel driver set.
Please not – do NOT do this if you are running RAID!!

Please Uninstall the driver set (from Programs and Features), and reboot – go back into Programs and Features, and make sure that all entries there for the Intel Rapid Storage Technology, or Intel Matrix Technology have gone.

    Then post another MGADiag report.
Also, check the version number of the Hard Drive Controllers in Device Manager – if they are still the current ones, use Rollback to get them back to the older version

  • Actually, no.  This issue has not been resolved.  I just haven't had time to deal with it until this morning.

  • I uninstalled the driver set and rebooted.

Went into Programs and Features but while doing so a window popped up informing me that a new set of drivers have been installed, and that I needed to reboot.

I rebooted once more, and checked in Programs and Features and there was no entry for Intel Rapid Storage, or Intel Matrix Technology.

    I opened Device Manager.

There is no entry for Hard Drive Controllers.

There is an entry for Disk Drives, and an entry for Storage Controllers.

Under Disk Drives, I selected my hard drive, and then the Driver tab.

The 'Roll Back Driver' button is disabled.

OK – that pretty much rules out the drivers then :)
The fileset is still the same, and still is consistent with a failing Cryptographic service.
The only thing I can think of that is likely to have caused this is either corruption of one of the system security Certificates, (possibly by malware) or general file or RAM corruption problems.

I can at this point only suggest that you go to WGA support for assistance, and see if they can help – other than that, my recommendation is for a repair install, or a clean reinstall.

WGA Support can be found here-

    North America: http://support.microsoft.com/contactus/cu_sc_genadv_master?ws=support&ws=support#tab4

    Outside North America:
    http://support.microsoft.com/contactus/?ws=support#tab0

Please let us know if (and how) MS manage to repair the problem without a repair install of the OS - it would be useful for future reference!
