Hi. A few months ago i purchased a HP Pavillion DV6000 laptop running Windows XP. As part of the deal on my laptop i was offered a free upgrade when Vista came out. I received an upgrade CD that upgraded my computer to Vista with a new product key. I activated the product online and all was good.

I then repartitioned and reformatted my computer and reinstalled Vista with the same product key. It wouldnt let me activate online so i activated via the telephone system which all worked fine.

The other day i had to wipe my computer again due to a combination of viruses and spyware. I again could not activate online and this time i could not activate via the telephone system. I still have the product key for Vista i recieved with my cd and also the product key on the laptop that i used for XP.

What can i do to activate my product key?

    Thanks Smile

  • The Windows Vista upgrade procedure requires that you have a qualifying Windows installation.  So you need to first install and activate Windows XP, then use the Windows Vista upgrade DVD to "upgrade".
