I had the same issue yesterday and it was nothing to do with the issue that I reported on that other thread. In that case there was a problem signing-in to Mesh.com, this is a problem with the client. Let me explain.

I went round to the house of some relatives yesterday and ended up getting them signed-up with Mesh. I signed three of them up. Each of them has a seperate user account on the machine (Vista 32bit, can't remember what edition). Here's what we did:
    1. Signed John up with Mesh at Mesh.com using his existing hotmail address
    2. Added the computer as a device hence installed the Live Mesh software
    3. Created 2 new user accounts on the computer for Victoria and Sarah
    4. Signed-in to the computer as Victoria.
    5. Signed her up for Mesh using her existing hotmail address
    6. Added the computer as a device hence installed the Live Mesh software again*
    7. Signed-in to the computer as Sarah
    8. Sarah didn't have an existing email address so we signed her up for a new ...@live.co.uk address
    9. Signed Sarah up for Mesh using this new email address
    10. Attempted to install Live Mesh software*. It installed OK but then I got the problem reported on this thread. "Live Mesh is currently starting..." and it never actually started.

I then had to leave as I had to travel home which is 200 mles away so its difficult to go round to see if its working again - and they aren't the most tech-savvy family unfortunately.

So to sum up...it worked for 2 members of the famly but not the third which I find really strange.

I'll let you know more if and when I know more.

    -Jamie

*It also seems stange that I actually have to install the software 3 times on the same computer.

  • Sat with a colleague right now who is having the same problem. First reported nearly a month ago. Is there a known fix yet?

    thanks

  • just out of interest:

    a) were there any instances of live mesh (moe) running already when Sarah logged in?
    b) is there any type of privilege difference between the three accounts?
    c) I guess this is part of (a) but were you using "fast user switching"?

    a) Can't remember. if you'd answered this when i posted it 4 weeks ago I'd have been able to tell you. Best I can say now is "possibly".
    b) Sarah has same privelages as Victoria
    c) no idea. What's that?

Extra info on my colleague today. She tried installing on 2 different machines (both WinXP) and had the same problems on both.

    Hi Jamie,

These 'fails to start' issues (there is more than one cause) have not all been resolved yet, I'm afraid.  We've tracked down the causes, in most cases, and are working to fix all of them as soon as possible - but unfortunately I'm going to have to ask for your patience for a bit longer.  Part of the difficulty is that some of these issues are not purely Live Mesh problems.  We'll let you know once we are ready to deploy additional fixes.

    Thanks,

    Ben.

    Ben,
My colleague that couldn't login (reported above on 26th November) can now login. Live Mesh has gotten past "currently starting". She has uninstalled and reinstalled the software - which seems to have done the trick.

  • Hi Jamie,

Thank you for the update.  Some of these 'fails to start' issues actually do resolve themselves (that sounds like what happened for your colleague) - though such occurrences show no apparent pattern, I'm afraid.  If the problem returns, please do encourage your colleague to collect her Live Mesh logs and file a bug through Connect.

    Thanks,

    Ben.

  • Hello,

I have had the same problem on my work computer.

I have been running live mesh for quite some time there on Vista. When I installed Windows 7 live mesh got stuck in this state. On Vista I installed it very early on so I can't really say for sure if the problem also would occur on my Vista install. However what I do know is that it works on my coworkers' Mac and Vista.

I checked the network traffic a bit and figured I would try it out on a different network instead of the corporate LAN. So I connected my 3G phone to the Windows 7 machine and voila, live mesh finished installing as it should.

Once installed it connects as it should on the coporate LAN as well.

If you need me to I can recreate this and send you logs and such, let me know on my live address if so.

    Hope it helps.

    Cheers,
    Niclas

  • Niclas, I'd go ahead and submit a bug with logs per the instructions here:
