Office 2007 Student Edition "not genuine" RRS feed

  • Question

  • I got this disc/with product key at my college bookstore this past summer - I am 100% sure it is genuine.  After reading the articles, I feel the problem is either one of these or both:

    1) My Win XP computer did have an older version of Office on it before I installed Office 2007. I thought this was an upgrade and so I don't think I uninstalled my old. I also did not want to mess up my ActiveSync connection/data with my Windows Mobile phone. My computer is a hand me down, and did come with software on it, and I really don't remember what was mine or already on it - I've had this for many years.

    2) Shortly after classes started in September I bought a laptop, and I thought I'd be doing my homework on that so I loaded it up.  That laptop was defective, so I uninstalled Office, and exchanged it.  Loaded up my 2nd laptop with Office, but the laptop had worse problems than the first. I uninstalled office, went to exchange it to find out I had to wait until Windows 7 came out, that they could not sell any laptops until the release date. Finally got my 3rd laptop on the day Windows 7 was release, loaded it up and it has been fine.  Although by now I was used to using my PC, so I just continued using my PC for my classes this quarter as well. I will say I have thought Office 2007 was buggy - it constantly freezes when searching for clip art, OFTEN times my assignment would ask for fonts that were not available, etc. I've also had it crash on multiple occasions and not save a file to restore (but most of the time it does).

I appreciate any advice to fix this - and I also want to make sure that whatever I do - I do NOT mess up my Windows Mobile phone/ActiveSync data !!

    Thanks,
    Michele

  • Ok, think it is solved for now. Found I had Office XP Pro running as well, so I removed it. Restarted. Used my Office 2007 disc to add Outlook back in because it was missing after removing old version of office.  Ran the diagnosis tool, it says under the Office tab, "100 Genuine".

    Crossing my fingers!
