Why is my copy of Office invalid

Question
-
I bought Microsoft Office Professional 2007 on e-bay. I can e-mail anyone who wants a copy of my receipt from PayPal and I have a valid product key. Why does the diagnostic tool think my copy of office is invalid. One thing I can think of is that when I tried to put in my home email address, the registration site kept saying it was invalid. For this website, I finally used my work address. Anyway, I do not want to uninstall office for risk of doing something to my existing files and email configurations. What is the problem and what do I need to do? My diagnostic report is below:

Hello KZSolomon,
Here is a snippet of your mgadiag report:
OGA Data-->
Office Status: 108 Invalid VLK
Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2007 - 108 Invalid VLK
OGA Version: Registered, 2.0.48.0
Signed By: Microsoft
Office Diagnostics: B4D0AA8B-604-645_025D1FF3-364-80041010_025D1FF3-229-80041010_025D1FF3-230-1_025D1FF3-517-80040154_025D1FF3-237-80040154_025D1FF3-238-2_025D1FF3-244-80070002_025D1FF3-258-3
Note that the report says you have an invalid VLK, which means that (a) your Toshiba computer has a Volume Licensing edition of Office Professional Plus 2007 installed, and that (b) an invalid Volume Licensing Key (VLK) was used to install it. An "invalid" VLK is one that was not issued by Microsoft, rather software pirates use a program that reverse engineers the Product Key algorithm and then uses it to generate new "keygen" Product Keys that will install the product but will not pass the latest verion of Office Validation, since they are not Microsoft-generated Product Keys.
No doubt you purchased this product thinking that you were purchasing a retail license for Office Professional 2007, and it's likely that the auction pictures, and the materials you received from the seller, were all for Office Professional 2007. The software package and the discs themselves probably have Office Professional 2007 all over them. However, the counterfeit software you ended up with is really Office Professional Plus 2007, an edition of Office that is only properly sold thru Microsoft's Volume Licensing program. As an individual consumer you should never have been sold Volume Licensing materials for Office Professional Plus 2007, such as a VL CD, and you certainly should not have received an invalid Product Key.
Your first course of action is to confront your seller with this information and demand a full refund. If the seller refuses to help, please consider exercising whatever recourse is available to you from consumer protections in place by law, or thru your method of payment, or thru the selling venue.
Also, you may be able to participate in the Office Genuine Offer to purchase a discounted replacement copy of office, and depending upon whether you received "high quality" counterfeit materials, you may qualify for the Office Complimentary Offer. Please see the FAQ here: http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/downloads/FAQ.aspx?displaylang=en#ID0EKNAC To participate in the Office Genuine Offer, please click on the Learn More Online link being displayed on your screen by the OGA Notifications utility.
One other possibility is that at one time your computer did have a Genuine installation of Office installed, but for some reason it was replaced with the current installation which is nongenuine. This could have happened if you took your computer to a repair shop and they reinstalled Windows and/or some or all of your programs. You Get Genuine once again by uninstalling the current nongenuine installation of Office and using your Genuine Microsoft hologrammed Office installation CDs to put back the genuine installation of Office you may have already had on the computer.

I had a version of Office already installed on my Toshiba computer (but one that I would have had to purchase a license for to use) and then had to reinstall the whole system when my computer crashed. I did not want to registger my office software that was pre-installed since it was a student version and did not include Microsoft Access. I then purchased the Office Professional 2007 which was on hologrammed CDs and I believe has a valid key. Could the old version already installed be the trouble. What if I uninstalled all versions of Office from my computer and then just installed the new one I bought. Would my documents be at risk? Would my e-mail settings be messed up? Would I loose the email and address book I currently have? Would that even address the trouble? I've only acted in good faith and feel I'm being punished by Microsoft. If I give you a copy of the receipt for my current version of office I purchased, can you undo the horrible message I keep getting which says my copy is not genuine?

Hello KZSolomon,
"Could the old version already installed be the trouble." No. The mgadiag report is showing that there is only one installation of Office on the computer, Office Professional Plus 2007. There is no installation of any trial version of Office currently installed on the computer.
"What if I uninstalled all versions of Office from my computer and then just installed the new one I bought. Would my documents be at risk? Would my e-mail settings be messed up? Would I loose the email and address book I currently have? Would that even address the trouble?" No, no, no, and no. Reinstalling the currently installed nongenuine copy of Office Professional Plus 2007 will not somehow make it Genuine.
"If I give you a copy of the receipt for my current version of office I purchased, can you undo the horrible message I keep getting which says my copy is not genuine?" No.
The installation of Office currently on your Toshiba Satellite L305 computer is a counterfeit copy. It was sold to you, and is designed to mimic, a retail license for Office Professional 2007. However, upon installation, it has been discovered to be a counterfeit copy, and the contents of the counterfeit discs are really Office Professional Plus 2007, an edition of Office not licensed/sold to regular consumers. Furthermore, this copy of Office was sold to you with an Invalid (that is, counterfeit) product key.
Here is what I would recommend that you do:
Did you buy this from eBay fewer than 45 days ago?
If Yes: The report above cites your Time Zone as Eastern Time, so you are in the USA, as am I. In the USA, you have 45 days to process a dispute thru PayPal when you buy something from eBay that you either never received, or (as in your case), what you received is Significantly Not As Described (SNAD). You were thought you were buying genuine Office Professional 2007 but the seller sent you something else, nongenuine Office Professional Plus 2007. If you are within the 45 day dispute window of PayPal, please immediately contact PayPal to open up a dispute with the seller. Accept no other resolution than the full refund of all monies paid. If you have not yet left feedback for the seller, please warn others that the seller sold you countrefeit software.
If No: Please click on the "Learn More Online" links that you are being shown by the nongenuine notices. That takes you to informational pages from Microsoft that further explain the nongenuine situation. On these pages, look on the right hand side for links that will enable you to initiate a request for Complimentary Replacement of your nongenuine Office. You will fill out a report online, then print the report, then send all the materials plus the printed report to Microsoft for evaluation. If Microsoft deems that your materials are high quality counterfeits, you will be sent free replacements.
