My website travelsteamiron.com has lost all its rankings! I always ran a clean site, no black hat seo. It is a niche site that ranked for many niche keywords. Now it does not rank for any! Not even my name: travel steam iron
I used to rank for:
travel iron
steam iron
best travel iron
best steam iron
I lost all my rankings! I am a webmaster and I am getting compains from my customers. They are also experiencing the same lost in rankings. What is going on? I created a webmaster account with live search, it confirmed that I am index and that I am NOT blocked. It does not answer why I lost ALL my ranking.
Can any one explain what is going on here?

I also want to add that I am not doing any of the following:
-
Attempting to increase a page's keyword density by add lots of irrelevant words. This includes stuffing ALT tags that users are unlikely to view.
-
Using hidden text or links. Only use text and links that are visible to users.
-
Using techniques, such as link farms, to artificially increase the number of links to your page.
I have great content and links only from good relevant sites.

Hi Olavare,
Currently you are ranking extremely low. Reviewing your backlinks, 95% of them are from low ranking/ spammy directories.

Strange, looking at results on live I started to think that backlinks are not important. As discussed in another thread that noone dared to answer, I have proof that even new websites with no or low ranking/spammy links, are still getting top spots!
http://forums.microsoft.com/webmaster/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=3246743&SiteID=79
For example, search term: File Extension Bin
Domain: extensionfile.net (1st, 7th, 8th, 10th - first page positions)
Domain: www.fileextensionbin.net (2nd - first page)
Doesn't the algorithm effect all in same way? Do the above sites have quality links or any links at all? Don't think so.Friday, May 9, 2008 5:02 PM -
Hi Brett,
Thanks for your feedback and insight, glad to have been of assistance too.

These are the same links I had for a year, what changed? Also what makes a backlink "spammy"? I thought most of my backlinks are legit, what do I look for so I dont make the same mistake???

How do I get a complete list of my backlnks from msn search? I only see my top backlinks in the webmaster tools

Think what he meant is that you need to build more quality links. Don't look for general directory inclusions or review sites that practically accept any website even spammy ones.
Don't think we can see a complete list of backlinks on Live Search (maybe I'm mistaken), but you can always use link: domain.com on other search engines (Google will show you some, Yahoo more).Quote: "These are the same links I had for a year"
Note: Maybe your competition kept building links and you didn't. Plus users link automatically to websites they like, did they in your case?
I'm noone to judge your website, but imo you are over using some terms too in your content. Remember, although a website have to be search engine friendly, we build them for the users not vice versa.Saturday, May 10, 2008 8:41 AM
