Office XP product key no longer valid RRS feed

  • Question

  • I've had this copy of Office XP Professional for years and I needed to reload it. I tried and got the message saying the Product key was not correct. I tried re-entering the key and got the same message. I had my wife read it to me and got the same message. I downloaded the Diagnostic Tool and it says the product is valid. Here is the Tool message:

  • Hello artiefur,

I just wanted to let you know that the installation of Office XP Professional with Front Page that you have is a Volume Licensing edition that is not normally sold to individual consumers.

If you have the original discs from Microsoft, you will see phrases such as "Illegal without separate license from Microsoft" and "Not for OEM or retail distribution" on the discs and the product key sticker.

If you are an individual consumer you really shouldn't be using that software---according to the report above, the product key is still Genuine, which means that it was leaked or stolen from the organization that originally purchased the Volume License from Microsoft, and that organization is still using the product.

Anyway, this forum no longer provides Office support.  Please ask your question in the Office Answers forum here:  http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/office/forum/office_install?page=1&tab=all
