Mr. Fix It Installation Error 16977921--2147024891 on Home Laptop

Question
-
I have two separate computers both using XP SP3 (fully updated).
1 "Work PC" a Compaq desktop
2. "Home Laptop" a Lenovo computer.
Both Work PC and Home Laptop have identical configurations [WinXP SP3, Office 2007 etc.] with the exception that my Home Laptop cannot install the Mr. Fix It software and receives the Error Code: 16977921--2417024891 whereas the Work PC installs just fine. I've linked around on this and have ininstalled/reinstalled MSXML 6.0 on the Home Laptop to no avail. Anyway for me to compare both computers to see where I can troubleshoot the install on the Home Laptop? Work PC's Mr. Fix It is installed and is working fine.
Thanks

I finally solved it. Mr. Fix It is now sucessfully installed on my Home Laptop. Windows XP, SP3
If you notice in the above message "The Microsoft Automated Troubleshooting Service service failed to start due to the following error: Access is denied."
I opened the service consol and went to the Microsoft Automated Troubleshooting Service ("MATS") on my Home Laptop.
I tried to start MATS. Message 'Access Denied'.
So I right clicked on MATS / Properties / Log On tab and noticed that my Home Laptop had my Work PC "This Account" checked with a preset account name and password I did not know.
I choose instead "Local System Account" and checked "Allow service to interact with desktop".
Clicked on Mr. Fix It and the rest of the install went smoothly.
Let me know if this explanation is clear enough for you.
THANKS FOR YOUR EFFORTS.

Thanks for the reply. You understand the issue very well. The "Work PC" that has Mr. Fix It installed and working is configured the same way as my Home Laptop. What I do is plug in the Work PC's ethernet cord to my Home Laptop and download updates, etc. because the connection is faster than my home network. When I plug in the ethernet cord into my Home Laptop I get the error message described in my original post.
I've tried to isolate the Event Log as you described. Below is the message I get when I try to install Mr. Fix It on my Home Laptop:
The output below is from the Application Event Viewer, [Source] MsiInstaller
"Beginning a Windows Installer transaction: C:\Documents and Settings\brichardson\Local Settings\Temp\FixitCenter-Temp\fixitcenter_setup_x86.msi. Client Process Id: 5288.
Product: Microsoft Fix it Center -- Configuration completed successfully.
Windows Installer reconfigured the product. Product Name: Microsoft Fix it Center. Product Version: 1.0.0090. Product Language: 1033. Reconfiguration success or error status: 0.
Ending a Windows Installer transaction: C:\Documents and Settings\brichardson\Local Settings\Temp\FixitCenter-Temp\fixitcenter_setup_x86.msi. Client Process Id: 5288."
Let me know if any other information would be useful.

I have nothing else to add from the Event Viewer (the same messages appear as above). "I think the Error Code:16977921--2147024891 was about proxy." If you think this may be a Proxy issue, can you provide me with the proper Proxy settings in the XP Professional SP3 32 bit environment? I will make sure I have those settings and try to re-install. Thank you.Wednesday, November 24, 2010 12:40 PM

See mypost and recent reply, don't know if you will have to use the workaround I cited in another post or just change your Lan Settings, but have a look anyway,

Thanks Yan, and Rh...
Yan: What I've been doing is hooking my laptop to the network cord at work and try to download the Mr. Fix It application. When I do so, I get the error message on my Home Laptop. When I did the exact same steps to my Work PC, Mr. Fix It installed perfectly.
RH: I've tried changing my LAN settting to "Automatically detect settings" then tried to install Mr. Fix It but no go. I will try the linked work around (in your post) only after I've tried other potential solutions. I would rather not change my Registry if I can avoid it.
Thanks for your replies.

Hi WSR203,
Thanks for your feedback and provide your event log information, Based on your event log error message,I think your issue still with proxy configuration, your home laptop can't connect to MS "Mr.Fix it" server. Perhaps the reason was from your home and company proxy configuration was not same. To solved this issue I suggest you setting your home laptop LAN setting groups "Proxy Server" same as your work PC's LAN setting.
Below are the setting IE proxy server steps
- On the Tools menu in Internet Explorer, click Internet Options, click the Connections tab, and then click LAN Settings.
- Under Proxy server groups, click to select the Use a proxy server for your LAN check box.
- In the Address box, type the IP address of the proxy server. (Note:please try type the same content with your "Work PC")
Hope it helps. Looking forward to your feedback. Thanks!

Instead of using my work network connection I decided to use just a regular cell phone modem to connect to the internet and then try to download Mr. Fix It. I got the same error message in my first post. Below is the event log from that attempt:

I finally solved it. Mr. Fix It is now sucessfully installed on my Home Laptop. Windows XP, SP3
If you notice in the above message "The Microsoft Automated Troubleshooting Service service failed to start due to the following error: Access is denied."
I opened the service consol and went to the Microsoft Automated Troubleshooting Service ("MATS") on my Home Laptop.
I tried to start MATS. Message 'Access Denied'.
