Re-Install OLE RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am trying to load pictures from power point to an Access OLE field.  The program freezes at that point and suggest I reinstall OLE.  The suggested procedures appear complicated.  Is there a simple down load to accomplish the reinstall?

  • Are you sure that is what it told you? I find it strange that a Microsoft application would make a mistake like that.

The thing is OLE is built upon COM, and COM is a vital Windows component. There are various Windows components, like the shell, that use it internally. So if you want to reinstall OLE then you would have to reinstall Windows itself. Even if a different team is involved, you would imagine that the Office team would be aware that there would be no way to just reinstall OLE and this is why I doubt that Office is telling you to reinstall OLE.

Since you also didn't provide the actual error message, are you sure that it wasn't an implied reinstall Office message? Like something along the line of "Powerpoint failed to transfer data to Access using OLE, please reinstall"? This kind of message would imply the reinstallation of Powerpoint and Access rather than OLE.

This is a signature. Any samples given are not meant to have error checking or show best practices. They are meant to just illustrate a point. I may also give inefficient code or introduce some problems to discourage copy/paste coding. This is because the major point of my posts is to aid in the learning process.
