Advice on Certification RRS feed

  • Question

  • I need an advice on which certification to pursue, i have got the A+, and MCDST certification, and i am working for a small IT firm as an IT technician and carrying out some desktop support for 6months now. My intension is to upgrade my certification as i would like to be a system administrator on servers. My problem is i do not have enough experience in servers,2003 or 2008 as in my company we only set up a small workgroup of about 7 workstations sharing files, printers and internet, the only little time i have to play around servers is when we have a site support, i manage to go along with one of our company's freelance system administrator who will take me on one or two stuff about active directory.

My question is now should i go for the MCITP EA (MS SERVER 2008) or MCSA/MCSE(MS SERVER 2003). Do I need to have a fair idea of windows server 2003 before moving to windows server 2008?

    Thanks

  • Hi,

    Thanks for your post here.

I would like to suggest you if you want to get certified on servers than choose 2008 track but if you are not familiar with that so you can choose 2003 because you can upgrade your certification just after getting 1 exam and you will be able to get MCITP on 2008 track.

Also I will suggest you to use CBTs and Microsoft self paced training kits which I got best ever in my career and I hope you will get alot of knowledge from them.

If further help needed I will feel happy to advise you.

    Regards.

    Shafaquat Ali.
