The bits of the key that are present above are the same as on the sticker on the bottom of the laptop.
Computer hasnt been fixed at all.
Computer is running Vista Home Premium which is what it came with installed.
The sticker is quite badly degraded as it would be stuck on the bottom of an old laptop..
Tried changing the code and get error code 0x80072efd.
When i click the "you can also contact microsoft by phone to resolve this problem" it gives me the HP tech support number which is an 0870 number, not free..
The error message you got was due to a poor internet connection - try using telephone activation.telephone activation.
Click on the Start button
in the Search box, type
SLUI 4
and hit the Enter key
follow the instructions - but when asked which service you require by the telephone ansafone, do NOT reply - this should force an operator to respond, who can deal with you.

Very strange! - the Key in use appears to ne an OEM System Builder Key, rather than either an OEM_SLP or COA_SLP Key as it should be.Please confirm that the Key above (what you can see of it) is the same as the Key on your COA sticker. If not - did you have your PC 'fixed' about 30 days ago? For what Version and Edition of Windows is the computer Licensed on that sticker?Try changing the Key to the one on the Sticker by using the Change Product Key link on the System Properties page - you will probably have to activate by telephone
