Money Sunset Plus RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi all,

I just installed Money Sunset Plus. The installation went smoothly.

But, when I open it bY clicking on the Money tab in All Programs, all it opens, then it  suddenly closes.

When I open by clicking on my Money files in My Documents, I get the  box about restoring my backup money file;  I click on it, it opens, starts tranferrring the file, then starts converting the files, then closes abrubptly.

I went to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/942485, and followed the troubleshooting step(s) about Data Execution Prevention. (I have excluded all the files except activate.exe & extend.exe.; I did not see them listed in the MNYCoreFiles folder.)

Microsoft says on that page that Money Sunset Plus SP1 should solve the problem and install automatically if Automatic Updates is turned on. That has not happened; nor can I prompt the download through the Money program itself.

I am running Windows XP SP3.

Any suggestions on how to fix this problem?

  • Microsoft Money Plus Service Pack (SP1).
That page is not referring to Money SUNSET.  The "Microsoft Money Plus Service Pack (SP1)" is for a different product.

  • Yeah, Banjomike, you're technically correct. BUT, when I check Add/Remove in Control Panel, the money program I have listed is Money Plus. So, http://support.microsoft.com/kb/942485 applies.

I have found that the "SampleBiz" file opens ok in Money Plus. But when I try to restore a MS Money 2001 backup file, it starts tranferrring the file, then starts converting the files, then closes abrubptly.

Does any one here have any CONSTRUCTIVE suggestions on how to open MS Money 2001 backup files in MS Money Plus?

  • The patch you are referring to was released two years before Money Sunset.  Not even Microsoft makes a habit of releasing new software which requires patches that were released in the distant past.

  • I may feel more constructive tomorrow.  By that time, who knows how your situation will have changed. Just as your revised info said that you were trying to read in a Money 2001 file,  by tomorrow you may have identified an error message that you have been getting.

  • Method 1 in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/919524/en-us may help, even if the symptoms don't seem to match.
