Hi
check my blog..
I created the ad group manually. and then use the config file to start the installation.

I have also put the sample file on the blog.
Sorry I just checked, you posted some questions on my blog. Yes you can name these groups anything. In one of the screen shot I posted, it is "DPCDev"as prefix. When crm installation create these groups, it add the guis to the CN or name of the group. But you don't need to do that when you create the ad groups manually.
I did that around 4 times in last 4 years.
I hope this helps.

Might I suggest instead putting them in their own specially named OU.

thanks, jamie for your referrence.
I also was thinking it can not be done,so no meaning or doing unsupported ways, as this is the main configuration.
could please let me know of the following
for me for my client, the groups are already there present in the AD.
So while installaing, does crm will use those groups or it need some work around as there will be GUIDs binded to the groups.
please advice me.
thanks in advance.

I think it might make new one's that might have the same name, It will then just keep track by the GUID of the group. I don't THINK it will use the same one's but I could be wrong. I don't think it will conflict in any way though.

Hi yes.sudhanshu,
CRM will create new groups with the same name different GUIDs is safe to install multiple CRM instances and use a single OU, however you will realise that is not very management friendly when it comes to troubleshooting.
Hope this helps

This seems like an OK approach. I wonder if there could be any ramifications potentially when you go to upgrade CRM in the future.

In my opinion I share the some concerns as Jamie, I think it just adds extra management effort and potentially any new issues with future upgrades/customizations etc..
I believe his questions was to due with the fact that sudhanshu was not sure if he could use the same OU/group names, I would prefer stick with the same names and let new GUID's be generated.

Hi nrodri,
my question is , if i ll just create the groups in the AD, while installing the CRM, will CRM fetch the proper groups, as there will be other groups with the same name in th AD. But the difference is, in the newly created groups(manually created) ADs do not have GUIDs.
thanks,
Sudhanshu

This is clear as per the MS document, that we can mention in the XML file with different names, but does it has any impact in rollup installations of any where?
Thanks,
Sudhanshu
