Windows Server Fails to Update, Error code 8024402C RRS feed

  • Question

  • I find my server has not updated since 11/25/2011.  Last check was 11/27/2011.  I have turned the enhanced Security off, but it still errors out with error code 8024402C.

    "

    If you receive Windows Update
error 8024402C while checking for updates, you might need to do one of the
    following:

    • This error might be caused by a program running on your computer
      that's preventing Windows Update Services
(SVCHOST) from accessing the Internet. Programs that might do this include
firewalls, antispyware software, web accelerators, Internet security or
antivirus programs. and proxy servers. "

Note the only program of this type I have running is the MS supplied Windows Defender that comes with the installation.

Does anyone have an idea of what may be causing the failure?

    Thanks

  • It is possible that the last update did not complete successfuly.

Reboot the server and try again. If after that you still have no

joy, then backout the last update and try again.

Failing that you might try Windows Update Repair.

Control Panel > View Update History > Troubleshoot problems with installing updates

If all else fails I hope you have a good server backup before 11/25/2011.
