Get 404 error when trying to access the WHS 2011 Connect Page

Question
-
When I try to install the WHS 2011 Dashboard / Connector, by entering http://<my-server-name>/connect, I get a "404 - The Webpage cannot be found" error. The same thing happens if I substitute the IP address of the WHS host.
Platform - Windows 7 Home Premium, SP1
- For various reasons, I uninstalled the WHS 2011 Connector software. Now I'm trying to reinstall it.
- I get the same error in IE and Firefox
- I can ping, browse and do a Remote Desktop Connection to my WHS 2011 server.
I seem to remember something similiar happening with my WHS 1 connector software. Do you just get one shot at installing WHS clients?

Hi, Bucky
Looks like the issue with IIS service in the server. Please make sure the World Wide Web Publishing Service is on in your server, you can open it by typing services.msc in command console. If it cannot be started, please paste the event log under Windows Logs -> Application, Event View. It can be opened by typing eventvwr.msc.
Best Regards,
Junyong

A little late, but this worked for me:
Internet Explorer > Internet options > Security > Trusted sites (or Local intranet, forgot wich one) > Sites >
# https://<my-server-name or server-IP>
> Add > Close > OK

Easy mistake to make is to accidentally use the HTTPS Site, I got a 404 trying to access it over HTTPS, ended up doing http://<IP Address>/connect and it came straight up.
I believe it's designed to only be accessible on an Internal LAN so depending on your DNS setup, using the FQDN or Host A name lookups probably won't work.
Also be sure port 65510 is open between you and your server if you happen to go through some kind of firewall.

Okay so I was having the same problem with IE 11 and RWA with WHS 2011. I researched for a solution without success for almost a year now. The only thing that worked for me was RWA using a different browser such as Firefox and/or Chrome. Recently, I had to log into a web site with IE 11 and observed this web site produced the same 404 error as my RWA. The page would initially show then go straight to the 404 error.
I scratched my head for days trying to figure out how to correct the issue when I observed that a particular icon was no longer at the end of my IE address bar. I know it sounds weird but just to clarify I am slightly (my friends would say insanely) OCD. Anyway, the missing icon was the compatibility view settings icon. I used it on several occasions to fix and/or correct web sites that loaded poorly in IE. I continued to contemplate this issue of the missing icon when it dawned on me that this was the possible solution for the 404 error. Again, I had tried all other options presented in the various forums on the web such as updates, certificates, etc.
I found that Microsoft moved the compatibility view settings option under Tools (the Sprocket icon) on the IE 11 bar. I opened the compatibility view settings option and added my RWA address (txdrozd.com). I closed IE 11 and reopened it but it probably didn't matter. I navigated to my RWA address and logged into my server. Amazingly and to my surprise the RWA page opened and I had access to my server without that dreaded 404 error. I attached an image showing the compatibility view settings option under Tools.
Solution
Enter the address you use to log in to your RWA in the compatibility view settings and try it again. I did this on all of my machines using IE 11 and it corrected the 404 error issue. I hope this helps.

Good solution here also - thanks!
This may be affecting all Server 2008 access from W10 Creator (1703) - during my searches, there seemed to be solutions involving replacing MSTSC.EXE with an older version to fix...
