SyncToy 2.1 changed all of my "Right Folders" to the wrong drive -- now no sync pairs work RRS feed

  • Question

  • I use SyncToy almost everyday and it has always worked fine.  I have created many folder pairs to sync my computer with folders on different external drives, and to sync from one external drive to the other.  I have three hard drives on my computer (one with several partitions):  C, D and E.  The drive letter for the external USB drive I use most often is V. Suddenly this evening, while I was in the middle of syncing folders between my computer and that external USB V drive, Sync Toy changed ALL of the right folders for all of my folder pairs to E.  For a moment it "switched back" to the correct folder paths, but now it back to the incorrect right folders.

Does anyone have any thoughts on how to fix this -- preferably other than be uninstalling and reinstalling SyncToy, which presumably would require me to recreate all of the folder pairs.

Thanks for any assistance of suggestions on this problem, which arose out of nowhere and is very annoying.

  • Believe I may have fixed this issue, but would still appreciate feedback on why it occurred:  I did a search on my boot drive for all files which included the word "SyncToy," including system and hidden files in this search.  I then sorted these by date, and discovered that on the date the problem arose SyncToy had created a new fine, SyncToyDirPairs.bin, and renamed the previous version SyncToyDirPairs.bak.  I decided to rename these files, making the older version the active .bin file.  I then opened SyncToy and found that my folder pairs were correct again.  After I did this I made a separate copy of the correct SyncToyDirPairs.bin file (i.e., the old win) for safekeeping.

Any thoughts?  It strikes me that anyone who experiences a similar problem might try this.
