Information on release date of.net 4.5 certs. RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

I decided to get some certificates in app development with .net.

The problem is that some of them that im interested in (4.0) are being retired on july 31.

My goal is to get MCPD PRO: Designing and Developing Windows Applications Using Microsoft .NET Framework 4 in 1-2 years.

Should I wait for release of 4.5? Someone knows any information about new exam versions?

    Please advice.

  • The following 4.0 exams are being retired on 31st July 2013:

    • 70-505: TS: Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5, Windows Forms Application Development
    • 70-511: TS: Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0, Windows Applications Development
    • 70-513: TS: Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0, Windows Communication Foundation Development
    • 70-515: TS: Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0, Web Applications Development
    • 70-516: TS: Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0, Accessing Data with ADO.NET
    • 70-518: Pro: Designing and Developing Windows Applications Using Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0
    • 70-519: Pro: Designing and Developing Web Applications Using Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0
    • 70-521: Upgrade: Transition your MCPD .NET Framework 3.5 Windows Developer Skills to MCPD .NET 4.0 Windows Applications Developer
    • 70-523: Upgrade: Transition Your MCPD .NET Framework 3.5 Web Developer Skills to MCPD .NET Framework 4 Web Developer

All 4.5 exams are scheduled to be available in a beta version over the course of the summer of 2012 (U.S).  This would indicate that the live 4.5 exams should be available in the first half of 2013.  As the 4.0 exams get retired on 31st July 2013, this would also indicate that the 4.5 exams should be out before 31st July 2013.

  • If you acquire a certification on 4.0, you will then be able to upgrade it into 4.5 when the new exams come out somewhere around mid-2013.

The upgrade paths can be seen here:

    http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en/us/certification/mcsd-windows-metro-style-apps.aspx

There is a 2x1 offer that will let you take the new version of the exams for free if you purchase the current version (and take those exams NOW):

  • Thank you all for explanation. I'm now a bit confused though.

Are they going to make next level (4.5) of mcts?

MCTS: Microsoft .NET Framework 4, Windows Applications Development

    Exam 70-5112

MCTS: Microsoft .NET Framework 4, Web Applications Development

    Exam 70-5152

MCTS: Microsoft .NET Framework 4, Windows Communication Foundation Development

MCTS: Microsoft .NET Framework 4, Data Access

    MCTS: Microsoft Silverlight 4, Development

From this link http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en/us/certification/mcsd-windows-metro-style-apps.aspx I got, that there could not be any new generation of mcts. Did microsoft stated if those will be ever released?

"The new Microsoft Certified Solution Developer (MCSD) credential focuses on the ability to design and build application solutions, which may include integrating multiple technologies and may span multiple versions of a single technology. It also demonstrates a candidate's commitment to remaining current on the latest technologies through recertification."

I just can't get the picture how can this work in the future...

  • Exam details for .Net 4.5 have not be released yet so it's impossible to tell what the certification path will be.

  • Was it officially stated that MCPD certs for 4.5 are going away?

How can I get WPF, Silverlight certs after summer 2013?

    Are these technologies obsolete now?

These certifications will retire on July 31, 2013 therefore you will not be able to obtain them after this date.
