Vail does not load because of failure to load lan drivers for Asus Crosshair IV motherboard. RRS feed

  • Question

  • I built a new pc with the new six core processor and tried to install VAIL. However, the system is unable to install the lan drivers for the ethernet controller. It states on install that there was an error with installing the drivers for the ethernet controller then pauses at a screen that requires to to locate and install the correct driver. The driver for the motherboard is made by Marvell which I have download but for some reason WHS Vail does not see the drivers on the disk and states that its searching for the most recent driver. CAN ANYONE HELP!!!!!

  • Shift-F10 to bring up a CMD prompt. From there, run the Marvell installation program. I don't have that particular motherboard, but I've had to do this for Asus/Marvell before and this was the only workaround I found.

  • Make sure you are using a signed driver for Windows 7 or (preferable) Windows Server 2008 R2.

I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)

  • Ken,

Thanks for the advice and based on your suggestion it loaded the Windows 7 drivers without a problem.

    With best regards

  • Another way to install hardware/drivers at that point of the installation is to press CTRL-ALT-DEL and start task manager. Then File>Run, type explorer.exe and bingo a start menu. Press the show desktop button to hide the install for now and you can install drivers as if it were a Windows 7 machine generally. Handy for exactly your case, and other things at the same time (like mobo disc drivers).

I've safely installed pretty much all devices at that point and the only "effect" visible is upon the next couple of restarts, it finishes installing some of the hardware and brings up a prompt for a reboot over the top of the "continuing installation" window. Obviously ignore these, click Restart later.

Otherwise, once its finished setting itself up, all is fine for me after doing that :)
