CRM 2013 - Create a composite field (fullname) for a custom entity RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I have seen examples for using composite fields (eg. fullname) for existing entities. However, I would like to create a similar concept for custom entities. Apparently, when I create a new field for a custom entity,  the name defaults to xrm_*. So, it is not able to access system setting value of fullname. How do I go about doing this.

  • Hi,
custom fields have always the publisher prefix (in your case xrm_).
Regarding a field with the same behavior as the standard fullname, it is not possible to create using the designer, you need to use a plugin (maybe also a synchronous workflow because you are using CRM 2013, but plugins is a better way to handle this).

Practically you register a plugin on the Create/Update event, so every time one of the fields that make your composite field get updated, the plugin update the composite field.
