Invalid Office 2007 Professional Key Cannot Activate RRS feed

  • Question

  • A client gave me their computer to install Office Professional 2007.  This was a sealed retail copy.  After installing it 3 times and tripple checking the key for errors I have not been able to get it to activate. I called the telephone activation with no luck either.  Lastly I followed this thread below that did not help either and will be pasting the log. Being an old version that is no longer in circulation returning it doesn't seem to be an option.

  • Hello HockeyGuyInOC,

Go back to www.microsoft.com/genuine and click on Validate Office button, and when it fails follow this message: "...and to show you how you can address this situation. Click here "

The choices after "click here" break down into an offer to buy Office at a slightly reduced price, and an opportunity to participate in a Complimentary Replacement Offer.  Generally speaking if the discs are good enough counterfeits to look like they have a hologram, but the hologram really turns out to be a label affixed to the top surface of the disc, then they should be good enough counterfeits to qualify for the Complimentary Replacment program.

You (or the client) will fill out an online report regarding where/when/how the counterfeits were purchased, and will be shown an address to send the discs and accompanying materials for evaluation.  If the materials qualify, the customer will receive replacements in about 4 weeks.

  • Hello HockeyGuyinOC,

What error messages if any did it display when trying to activate?

What error messages do you see when you go to www.microsoft.com/genuine and click on the Validate Office button?

When you run the online diagnostic here http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/diag/default.aspx?, what error messages if any do you see?

Were you able to speak with a live activation rep to get some sort of explanation as to why it would not activate?  To reach a live rep, run the Activation Wizard again and choose Telephonic Activation and call the phone number.  When the system answers, do not enter anything or say anything into the system, which is then supposed to transfer you to a live rep.  (To increase your chances of speaking with someone in your home country/region, call during normal business hours.)

  • Online automation shows this error:

Your software cannot be activated because the Product key used to install the software is not valid.  Please uinstall the software and then reinstall it using a valid Product Key. If you believe that you are getting this message in error, click Back and choose the telephon option. The telphone activation option will provide you the opportunity to speak with a support representative about all activation issues.

On the telephone it was automated only and then disconnected after telling me the key is not valid for activation we can not help you.

  • After researching it became clear that even though the packaging, COA, Key looked very clean/good the discs gave it away. I rubbed the tops and could feel lip at teh edge of the disc.  Is the customer just out of luck or is there anything that can be done? Here are some pictures of what I'm now very strongly considering to be counterfeit.

  • Thanks so much Dan that will make the client happy. Yeah they are hologram stickers but not as good as some of the genuine ones I have seen. The packaging was pretty impressive I was fooled at first then got suspicious since nothing was working and felt the sticker.

  • Hello HockeyGuyInOC,

    You're welcome! :-)

Others who have submitted their materials for evaluation have told us that it usually takes less than two weeks to get their replacements from Microsoft (even though the official time is 4-6 weeks).  Post back to let us know how long it took for your client to get theirs.
