  • Question

  • I heard on the news this morning about the Conficker worm that is to hit on April 1st. Do I need to do anything to be protected from this? Or will my antivirus stop it?

  • If you are running OneCare and Windows Automatic Updates are on and all security updates offered are installed, you are protected from known reported variants. The worm exploits a security hole that was patched by Microsoft via Windows Update in 2008. If your system is up to date, your system is protected even without OneCare.

  • This is good to know what ticks me off if the news reports it causes some panic in those not in the know about how most viruses or worms work and the News reports not even your security center in windows or windows live one also other virus security apps can protect you from Conficker Worm at lease that's what my local news reports

I've also seen wierd behavor in Onecare like not able to start up or get updates this could cause panic in some cases I think
