Safely remove hardware Icon missing from XP machine RRS feed

  • Question

  •

My machine recently lost its "safely remove hardware " Icon.  I've been using this machine for about 2 years with no problems, but last week, the icon disappeared.

I've gone to the Control Panel, clicked on Taskbar and Start Menu, clicked on customize, and the "Safely Remove Hardware" folder is in the "Past Items".  I use auto update for all my windows updates.

  • Try defragging - I've found that if my disk is more than 3% defragged the "safely remove hardware" will not load at start up!

It's really a registry problem - but won't go there.

Sometime you need to defrag twice - to get it to work right!
