Reactivating windows... RRS feed

  • Question

  • I kept getting the "You have __ days to reactivate windows" balloon, right? After a while it was getting annoying so I downloaded the Genuine Advantage Diagnostic program. Come to find out, the code doesn't match the code on the side of the computer. The one on the side of my computer is similar to this: http://www.microsoft.com/resources/howtotell/static/images/coa_page_pc-sysbldr.gif
But mine is an older version.

So, the next thing I did was I downloaded the
Windows Product Key Update thing. When I entered my proper code, it said that it has exceeded its usage. This might be true, because we had to reinstall Windows a lot on this computer because we let my Uncle use the computer for a while and he messed it up a lot. Anyway - back on subject. I can not afford to buy a whole new key, is it possible to use the key on the side of my computer again?

  • If you cannot successfully activate via the internet, then choose the alternative option to "activate by phone".

The Activation Wizard displays the toll free number that you can dial.

You can open the Windows Product Activation wizard by clicking Start, then Run, and type in "oobe/msoobe /a", then press the Enter key located on your keyboard.
