repair a damaged drive without losing data RRS feed

  • Question

I was just alerted that my non-system drive is failing and needs repaired.  I click repair and it states that data might be lost.  The help link says something about adding another drive.  I am guessing it wants the new drive so data can be moved to that drive and you can repair the other drive without data loss.  Finally, you can move the data back to the newly repaired drive.

I have an external USB drive that I can add to the system.  What are the proper steps to add drive, move data, repair existing drive and move data back after the repair?

I dont' want to leave my USB drive added to the pool after the repair.

  • I would suggest adding the new drive to the pool, then enabling folder duplicatin on every folder on your WHS before running the repair option.

failing that, you could add the drive as a non pool drive and just copy all of your data to that drive.
