This copy of windows is not genuine error.

Question

Hi there...I recently wanted to upgrade my hard drive to a larger one. I did this successfully using the free version of Macrium Reflect.
Unfortunately when I tried to use my new hard drive I was advised that my copy of microsoft was not genuine.
I bought the computer (a home build) 2nd hand with windows 7 ultimate 64 bit already installed.
Well it turns out the version installed was an OEM from another system that is no longer valid.
So I do in fact have a non genuine copy of Windows 7 Ultimate.
I have since purchased a full retail version of Windows 7 Professional which I would like to install as soon as I can figure out a way to save my personal settings and data to transfer to the new installation.
I have an external device to save my data & settings to but due to my copy of Windows 7 Ultimate not being genuine I can't save anything to it as my computer doesn't recognize it.
Any advice/guidance would be greatly appreciated.
Let me know if you require any more information in order to assist & Thanks Very Much!

As you discovered, the installed versions of both Windows and Office are counterfeit.
You need to reformat and reinstall onto your new hard drive - but using the proper Windows Pro disk.
You can transfer *almost all* of the settings and data using Windows Easy Transfer (WET)
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/11470-windows-easy-transfer-transfer-computers.html
I would still prefer to make a manual copy of my data, though, onto external media (it's a lot easier usually to check that a manual copy has worked properly, than it is an image, or the WET files!)
