Forms slow to open

Question
-
I am finding that CRM 4 forms are slow to open. Currently I am using a standard system with no customisation. It is running on a fast server and on the server itself the forms open instantly. However over the internet (standard fast broadband connection) it is slow. e.g. a contact form takes 15 secs to load every time.
Firstly is this just expected behaviour? What speeds to you see?
Secondly is there any way of speeding it up?
Thanks

I found changing these settings worked well for several users. Forms should load quickly. You can also check your event viewer on the CRM server to see if any errors are logged. You want to ensure your users are pulling from cached forms. The post references IE 7 but it is a good configuration for IE 8 as well.
You can also review this article and see if there is anything that will help. Basically, you want to optimize your server and user machines to leverage caching. http://blogs.msdn.com/benlec/archive/2009/01/08/improving-crm4-performance-under-windows-2008-using-iis7-output-caching-feature.aspx
Have a look at this utility as well. I am not sure if this is built for CRM 4 so you should check into that first. I found it useful for CRM 3 but most of the slowing issues for me went away with 4. However, I do have some users who still have a slow response time but it has to do with conficts on their systems, older laptops, etc.

Are you using IFD configuration or Integrated Security? With integrated, you will often see a high volume of Integrated Auth handshakes whouch could impact repsonse. IFD will optimize this. Also, have you checked cache settings on the client machine? Try using Fiddler or another HTTP trace utility to see what is exactly being downloaded to the client machine each time. When you say "each time", are you doing this via double-clicking form the grid or by hiutting F5 on the browser?

Matt,
I am using integrated security at the moment. Can I easily switch to IFD and will it effect my internal users in the office to do this?
On the machines I have increaed the cached size from 50 to 250 mb but nothing else.
I am double clicking from the grid.
What would I be looking for in fiddler?
Many Thanks for your help

Hi Paul,
Data volumn in your CRM is very large?
One thing you can try is disable the FORM ASSISTANT feature in the default CRM form. (right hand side there)
If you open form assistant it will load the data while you open your form.

Toong,
I barely have any data so it isnt related to data volumes. I tried turning off the "form assistant" and this didnt help. How long does it take to open a contact form on your deployment?
Thanks
