Click Help but opens MSN home page RRS feed

  • Question

  • It has been a while since I needed to use the help screen. This morning when I click on the help button either in the notifier or in the Live Desktop all I get is a MSN home screen.

  • Hi Robert,

I'm being taken to the Live Mesh help pages when I click on Help in the notifier.  Are you still having this problem?

If you still cannot access the help pages: What can we help you with in the interim (i.e., what information from the help pages did you need)?

    Thanks,

    Ben.

<Edit> Assuming your question is the one in this thread, please see that thread for my reply. :)

  • Ben; Thanks for the answer to the immediate question. That is what I needed.

Now, what should I do to correct the application link to help?

When I click ? or help it attempts to connect to

    http://g.live.com/7WCen-US/1002??CM=1002&DI=11860&CE=client

however after a 30 second or so pause then redirects to

    http://www.msn.com/

  • That link works for me (using IE7). Did you try recently, maybe it was a temporary issue?

If you still can't get to the help page: Which browser are you using? Is this a home or a work computer, any firewall, proxy etc. which might get in the way? Scripting enabled?

  • IE7

It has worked in past though I could not pinpoint the last time I have used it.

This is a work computer and thus from time to time things do change (magically you know with the "official" answer being "nothing has changed.

Any ideas would be helpful though this is not a crisis situation.

    Keep up the good work.

    Thanks again.

  • Well I am back. Yesterday the help worked. Today it doesn't. It may be something on this end or not. Any ideas on what to look for.

Just a reminder -- When I click on help or the ? mark, it attempts to connect to

    http://g.live.com/7WCen-US/1002??CM=1002&DI=11860&CE=client

    but eventually connects to

    http://www.msn.com/

This is not necessarily high priority but is an aggravation.

  • Hi Robert,

Can you reach the help pages with this direct link:

    http://help.live.com/help.aspx?project=live_mesh

From my end, our help pages seem to be working fine, so I'm not sure what to advise, especially if you can reach the help pages from that direct link.  Please let me know how it goes.

    Ben.

  • OK - Current conditions.

I took the link you sent and tried that. I tried it several times and let it sit for 10+ minutes with no screen returned. I tried it once more (you know the once more just in case and it finally came through correctly.

After this, this the help key (and ?) now works. Possibly an election day snafu.

I will continue to monitor and let you know.

  • The redirect to www.msn.com happens on many live.com and msn.com redirects when the route is bad or there is a timeout in getting redirected. I've also seen this happen if you have a wonky cookie stored for live.com/msn.com
It might be worth deleting any cookies stored by the browser that are from live.com and msn.com and then giving it another go.

  • I am also being redirected to msn.com when I click help--has been happening for several days on both a Win XP and Win Vista SP1 machine, both with IE7.  I am unable to access via the direct link posted above, using IE 7 on Win XP SP3.  The tab just sits there--no error message ever comes up, and I am able to close the tab.
