Depending on your Partner Hosted option - it is very possible. Reference this article for moving CRM 4.0 from one enviornment (Partner Hosted) to your own enviornment.

Only note is that Professional license has no user limit which Workgroup has, so mapping active users would be a problem.

In a nutshell you would need to get copies of your CRM databases from your current provider, restore them to your new server (having CRM 2011 already installed), and then import your CRM 4.0 organization databases and they will be upgraded accordingly. Circumstances are a little different if you existing database is SQL Server 2005 but still doable. You can look in the Implementation Guide for the specifics.

Hi Frank,
Thank you for the quick reply. I am getting this error "Microsoft Dynamics CRM product key is not valid or cannot be used with the
current deployment" do you think this can be a licensing issue? Thanks

Hi Jason,
Just finished the upgrade from Microsoft CRM 4.0 Partner Hosted to Microsoft CRM 2011 Workgroup On-Premise. The above product key error disappeared when I restarted the wizard. Very strange, not sure why I got that in the first place. But now the migration is done, it is sure now that you can upgrade it in my scenario.
Thank you for your help. Much appreciated.
