Cascade Deactivates in CRM 2011 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Can we do a cascade deactivate in CRM 2011 instead of  cascade delete?  without using a plugin or workflow?

  • Not out of the box, but if you have CRM installed on-premise, you can use a custom workflow activity to distribute a workflow to a record's child records. (Fortunately, there's a free codeplex solution available that distributes workflow rules to child records: http://crm2011distributewf.codeplex.com/). You would have to register this custom workflow assembly the same way you register a plugin, then create a workflow rule for when the parent record type's status changes to inactive that calls another workflow on the child entity type, using the custom workflow assembly to cascade the rule to the child records. The second workflow would be a manual workflow that deactivates the child record.
