  • Does anyone know if there are any certificatons that exist for Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011?  Also any training classes anyone would recommend?  I am in the New York City/New Jersey metropolitan area.

There are exams out there now. As of July 1st they are now $150 a piece.

There is also MSFT provided Sales, Presales, and implemenation training called "SureStep".

If you look at the MSL pages for the exams and go to the preparation materials page you will see there is also classroom training provided by Microsoft.

Exam MB2-866 — Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 Customization and Configuration

This is my favorite of the three core exams. The main differences between the 4.0 and 2011 versions? Certainly Solution Management is the biggest one, but a couple of other features — charts, team ownership of records — also are new and figure prominently. Links, starting with the Microsoft exam page:

Exam MB2-868 — Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 Applications

Applications, gotta love it. (Especially the official curriculum! ) Sales, Marketing, Service Management, Service Scheduling. Some things are the same as the 4.0 exam version: don’t take the exam without understanding service scheduling and the scheduling engine, for example. Some things are new: inline filtering and visualization (charts), and goal management, for example. Links:

Exam MB2-867 — Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 Installation and Deployment

What’s different from 4.0? Hmmm…where do we start? IFD is the big one, but there are plenty of other important changes that feature prominently: server infrastructure, deployment manager, upgrading, and reporting extensions for SSRS are perhaps the most important.

  • There are 3 that I know of so far:

    • MB2-866 - CRM 2011 Customization & Configuration
    • MB2-867 - CRM 2011 Installation and Deployment
    • MB2-868 - CRM 2011 Applications

You can go to http://www.prometric.com/default.htm to sign up for the exams (There may be other testing companies, but this is the one I use in the DC Metro area). Each one is about $125.

As far as training materials go, Microsoft Learning offers both online and instructor led training for each of the 3 exams:

I wouldn't take the Installation and Deployment since that's already been done here.  If you recommend both, which would you take first?

Thanks again, this forum has been great so far!

  • Applications is more how to use the application where customization and configuration is setting it up and customizing it.

  • Applications is certainly more of a Functional exam, whereas Customization and Configuration seems more suited for you (Sys Admin, truobleshooter, customizer).

    Jamie,

I always seem to echo your replies. I apologize. It's not intentional. I think that while I multi-task during the day, I don't refresh the forum posts as much as I should. That or there's a lag in when I respond that doesn't show more recent replies... ;-)

  • If you cannot find any instructor led training via the Dynamics eLearning site, you may want to look into online courses (though these can run ~$350).

  • I finally found some Training centers where they appear to have instructor led training.  It actually doesn't show up when you search from within the topic.. you have to go to the general search and type Dynamics in to find it...

Anyway, I have a question....  Does passing each of these individually give you that certification in Dynamics?  or Do you need to pass all 3 tests to become "Dynamics Certified"

  •   I haven't seen an MCITP track yet for 2011.  The classroom training gets you ready for the exams listed previously.  Those each are a different MCTS certification.

  • Thanks Jamie.  While each does have it's own certification it appears that completing all 3 earns you the certification of "Microsoft Dynamics Certified Technology Specialist"

    Is this correct?

  • Please provide a link or reference to where you saw that.  In the past each of those exams provided a different "Microsoft Dynamics Certified Technology Specialist" certification.

I think Yes, that one will be called a Microsoft Dynamics Certified Technology Specialist after clearing one/all the above certifications of MS CRM 2011 - because I've cleared three  certifications for MS CRM 4.0(Applications, Configuration & Customization and Installation & Deployment) and the logo I've got is of Microsoft Dynamics Certified Technology Specialist.

    Hope it served your purpose..

  • All Microsoft exams are proctored through Prometric testing centers.  You register online at www.prometric.com and find a testing center near you and take the exams.

  • You become a MCTS - Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist by passing one of the MS Dynamics 2011 exams. You do not have to pass all three, just one.
