ntoskrnl.exe missing or corrupt file RRS feed

  • I have windows xp and a Dell comptuer, and i got the error missing file or corrupt <windows root>\system32\ntoskrnl.exe

    I have no idea on how to fix this....i read the other topic on this problem on this forum but none of it worked for me... how do i fix this problem..how do i copy and paste the file back......i tried rebooting but its not even letting me do that because of that error...

    Much help needed here.

    this forum is about Windows Home Server. For finding help with Windows XP please post your question in the appropriate place, the Windows XP Forums.
    Post more details there, how the situation came up - own actions or alone.

    This being said, dependend from the reason there can be various solutions. If you cloned the disk. it can simply be a mispointing entry in the boot.ini, if you did not include the Dell diagnostics partition.
    Could also be, that the file system is corrupt and therefore the file could not be found, because it's damaged. In this case a repair install is often the best method, assuming there is no physical damage on the disk.
