    hello all.

    we are trialing various full text search products (such as Global Search and Power Search).

    They work well doing a search across all of CRM for particular search terms, you can also filter it by entity type (e.g. just return emails, or cases or accounts).

    However what we really want is the ability for fast searching for all related emails/notes etc. for an Account or Case.

    What we had expected was a search link in the left-hand Nav bar on the Accounts or Case form that would provide fulltext search features for all items related to the one currently being viewed.

    Is there a product that does this? When searching our users really only want to see emails related to the entity they are currently viewing.

    Hello,

    If the searches are on the fields of an entity, then you could expect to see them by search. What you mentioned above says that you want to search on the relations (specially on 1:N relations) of the entity. This is Out Of Box feature (not included!), even is not supported in the global search solutions you have.

    So with OOB functionality can I search on the email text?

    An example - for an email activity associated with an entity - which appears in the Activities view with:

        Subject:  test email for searching - contains Australian capital city name in text

        Body: 

        test email for searching - contains Australian capital city name in text

        which is Canberra

    I can search by text contained  in the subject, e.g. for an email: *capital* will match based on the subject.

    but a search for *Canberra* does not.

    I have edited the entity to make the description field "Searchable".

    You could search these specs within the activities view (adding find columns to the quick find view) not the parent entity's view. But this does not mean that you could search within the activities of an entity from that entities view!
