SyncToy 2.1 tries to overwrite manually copied files RRS feed

  • Question

  • Files are manually copied from NAS disk to XP. The last mod dates are matching. Still SyncToy2.1 wants to overrite them. Does anyone know a way to avoid this?

  • HI,

What's your XP hard disk partition, NTFS or FAT?

After first time overrited sync , Could you please sync again, please take a look - does all files still be overrite?

  • The target partition is NTFS.  The source partition is NAS (D-Link File server). The total size of the files is about 150 Gb - why to overrite all these files, even once, if they are the exact copy? Why not to provide an option like 'Ignore and accept', so that SyncToy could set whatever flags it needs and wherever it needs?
    Thx

  • HI Zaha,

150G is too large, you may first try on a small folder(create a new folder pair on a deep path folder or select subfolder on exists folder pair),  sync again after overwrite sync. pls take a look- the files should NOT be overwrite again.

because of synctoy detect files changes by using file
s timestamp, the target files timestamp may be changed when you manually copy them from NAS. that's why synctoy ask overwrite.  It's no problem to sync between NTFS or FAT.

    Looking forward your result.

Also your suggestion is good, we have recorded, thanks.
