Restore Enterprise Resource Pool RRS feed

  • Question

  • Another forum user kindly pointed me in the direction of Project Server 2013 having the ability to backup and restore under the PWA settings.  I ran the backup but when I try to restore the Resource Pool, there are no options for versions (like there is when selecting Projects).  Is this normal behaviour?  Shouldn't there be at least one version to choose from?

No.  Project Server keeps only one version of each item EXCEPT FOR enterprise projects, where you have the option to back up multiple versions.  Therefore, when you go to restore the Enterprise Resource Pool, select it on the Item pick list and click the Restore button.  So, what you are seeing is normal and expected behavior.  Hope this helps.

  • Hi,

Did you run the administrative backup or the daily backup? Did you wait for a while so that the backup can be performed?

    Hope this helps,

  • Hi Guillaume, I tried administrative backup and also went into CA> monitoring> and ran the task manually (interestingly there were about 5 of this task created). I'll check 'in the morning (Aus time) and see if there is a change after the task runs overnight too and get back to you.

  • Hi Dale,

We are in a situation where it wasn't until a couple of days later that the Timesheet Managers had been reset from their Manager to themselves.  In this instance if there is only one copy kept then the assumption it would be from the overnight job.  That wouldn't give me the data from a couple of days prior.

Is it not possible to keep a couple of versions?  Maybe there is another way?

The system only keeps one copy of the Enterprise Resource Pool, and there is no way to force it to keep more versions.  Sorry.

  • In addition to Dale's excellent and accurate reply, in order to keep multiple backups of your resource pool, you might use some workarounds:

    • open all resources from the resource center into MS Project Pro and copy paste the entire resource pool into an excel sheet. Note that you'll not get all information, for example, the timesheet manager is not there.
    • create a report (SSRS, Excel Services...) and save regular local copies of the report.

    Hope this helps,

  • Okay, thanks everyone for the information.  Good clear details I can pass on to the Project Team :-)
