Schedule Home Server Backup RRS feed

  • Question

  •  Does anyone know any way to schedule or trigger a backup of the Home Server Data stores to the external USB drive?

Manually it works fine, the solution bought out in PP1 is adequate for my needs, but I want the data stored on the server backed up to an external USB drive nightly?

Failing that - is there any backup software for USB that complements (rather then redesigns) the innovative NTFS based home server single instance backup solution?

    Thanx

If you want to schedule it, you have to go outside of WHS.  You can use an app such as RoboCopy or SyncToy to backup your shares to a USB drive nightly.  You can't use typical backup programs such as NTBackup because all you will get is the tombstones, not the actual files.

  • Someone else has already figured it out. A script has been developed which you can schedule via windows task scheduler. They even got encryption available if you are interested. Please take a look at Nicky Murphy's blog:
