ocs 2007 r2 - no video displayed in communicator RRS feed

  • Question

  • hello all,

i have recently deployed a new communications server 2007 r2 in our environment.  this is running alongside an existing communications 2007 rtm server.

when i move a user from the 2007 rtm version to 2007 r2 and a communictor video call is initiated there is no video displayed, simply a gray background.  however if the users are located back to the 2007 rtm version there are no issues.

where/what can i look at to see what/where this issue is located?  does anyone know what could be the problem?

    thanks.

    paul.

  • Hi,

You may download the updates from the link provided by Mark A King (thanks for directing). Alternatively, try running Windows Updates and make sure you've the other products ActiveX installed http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate

Meanwhile, based on the KB article above, it MIGHT fix the issue as it was stated as there's a fixed release for such problem:

971846  (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971846/ ) Video frames are not displayed in Office Communicator 2007 R2 on a Windows XP-based computer

    Never try never know :)

    Thanks.

  • Hi Paul,

What version of Office Communicator are you using? R2 or non-R2? Try running the latest patch and updates.

The latest build Office Communicator R2 is 3.5.6907.37

    Update us if possible.

    Thanks!

  • I assume this is a point to point call, correct?  If this is a conference there could be a configuration issue with the DATAMcu.

  • yes the version I am having issue with is the R2 version.

it is indeed a point to point call within communicator.

currently have version Version: 3.5.6907.0 (Volume), so it seems i am missing some patches.  Running the best practices doesnt pick any patches i still require, where is a good place to look?

still getting my head around troubleshooting this product so excuse me if i miss any pertinent details.

  • current version is 3.5.6907.37 available here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/969695

However, the update will not fix your point to point video problem.  Do you have the local or group policies applied?  Can you run a RSOP against your computer and user to verify you don't have anything preventing video.  Also enable communicator logging, restart MOC and try a video call again.

  • Hi Paul,

Glad to know that it solved your problem! However, updating it to the latest patch would be still recommended as it'll fixed tonnes of known issues (we'll never know what's coming up next ;))

Meanwhile, could to mark the correct thread as the answer so other forum visitors/guest can get the answers as well :)
