Hello Alex,
In that case, before project server 2010 installation, i would recommend the following.
Run the sharepoint config wizard, disconnect your previous Configuration database.
Install Project server 2010.
Run the sharepoint configuration wizard, create new configuration database, observe the behaviour.
Later you can attach your Sharepoint content database.

Tareq it sounds like a security issue, does the account you are using is a Site Collection Admin? Check out the documentation: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc197607.aspx

Hi Christophe,
Thanks for your reply, Actually, I'm using site collection admin account, it is a simple single machine install (VM), and I use only one user account, "administrator"
Friday, May 28, 2010 6:20 PM -
In which case I'd start again - it's probably easier. The documentation on Technet is pretty complete for building a VM - just done a couple, biggest issue was getting SQL AS working.

Hello Tareq,
As per the log, looks like the issue was occurring when provisioning PWA.
System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.Microsoft.Office.Project.Server.Administration.EvaluatorModeProvisioning.ProvisionDefaultPWASite()
Is it a Basic installation? If yes, is it possible to configure through Advanced method?
Ensure WSS timer and Project services are configured on the appropriate account and all the services are running.
Are you able to access the central admin site?
If yes, Ensure the Project Application Service created in Manage service applicatiions.
If possible try to create the PWA manually.

Hello Tareq Ali,
It's very hard to analyze what the problem is from a few error messages. With any technical issue, a few lines about what you were doing prior to the failure, what is working, what isn't working, what version of project, etc, can help you resolve this issue.
For example, did the provisioning complete? At what point did the failure occur? What were the last 5 steps you did before this error message occured. What is working?
Can you provide more details about what you were doing to configure the server?
Cheers!

Hi Sriram
I'm using SharePoint 2010, I can't find WSS time, but I can find SharePoint Time Service is up and running correctly.
Performs administrative tasks for SharePoint is no running, not sure tha has anything to do with that error.
Project Services: Microsoft Project Server Events is up and running, Microsoft Project Server Queue Service up and running
I can access Central Admin site for SharePoint 2010
Project Services are mentiond above, can't see any other service.
How can I create PWA site before configuring Project Server?

Hi Michael,
This error occured while provisiong, the error occured in step 8 (create sample data), before this, I did nothing, I just installed and configured SharePoint 2010 and it is working properly. I install Project Server and I got that error message on that clean enviroment.
Info about my machine:
Window server standard 2008 R2
SQL Server 2008 R2 Enterprise
SharePoint Server 2008
that is it.
I have the whole log file produced by the configuration wizard, if you are interested I can email it to you, I wish I could upload it here.

are you following the step by step procedure documented on TechNet? http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc197479.aspx
(you only provision a PWA instance AFTER Project Server is installed and configured)

I check the installation guide, and it looks like I didn't miss any step.
I understand that I only provision PWA instance after project installed and configured, as you can see from my orignal post, the configuration step fails with the exception.

OK, I have asked internally to see if PS and SP 2010 are supported on the same TFS server. Will let you know once I have the answer

Hi Christophe,
I got the same problem installing ps2010 on a stand alone server (for a demo install on a notebook).
I have installed the system a zillion times on a sharepoint farm following the specs with no big issues.
For the standalone installation there is not much you can messed with. I have done it a couple of times with no avail. It fails at exactly the same point as for Tareq.
My config is:
Windows Server R2, Standard
SQL 2008, Sp1 with CU 5.
Sharepoint 2010
Project Server 2010
Thanks
Luis.-

Hello Luis,
Is it a Basic installation? If yes, is it possible to reinstall through Advanced method?
So that you can avoid automatic PWA provisioning. Please go through the following steps and let me know the difference.
1.Install Sharepoint & Project 2010 , Select "Complete" and Advanced at the time of installation
2. Start the necessary services after the SPS configuration wizard (Secure Store Service, Excel Service and Project application service)
3. Try to create PWA in Project service application.

TFS? Team Foundation Server? I don't have Team foundation Server installed.
I have found some virtual machines where PS and SP 2010 are installed on the Same Machines.

Hi
I have exactly the same problem, when running the sharepoint configuration. I also have installed:
Windows Server R2, Standard
SQL 2008, Sp1 with CU 5.
Sharepoint 2010
Project Server 2010 (trying to install)
At first i thought that it could be a problem installing, so i:
- uninstalled project server
- run sharepoint config wiz. for my sharepoint service to be running correctly after the project server uninstall and no problem appeared
Reinstalled again and same error.
Any news?

Hello Alex,
Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.Office.Project.Server.Administration --- According to the error, looks like the project server binaries were not integrated with Sharepoint.
Can you make sure you have installed in the following order?
1.Install Sharepoint 2010 (Do not run the sharepoint wizard)
2.Install project server 2010 (Run the wizard)
3. Start the necessary services at the end of the wizard.

Hi
The question is that we were already using Sharepoint 2010, before installing Project Server 2010, should i make a backup of Sharepoint and uninstall both?
Regards
Alex

Hello Sriram,
Thanks for your reply.
At your suggestion I when back to check the procedure and realized I was using a workgroup configuration (no domain, stand alone server)
Since I had installed Win2008R2 and SQL2008 with a local account I when ahead and used the same account to install SharePoint2010. For the stand alone install it took the same account. In the ProjectServer part I couldn´t provision the site (although it created the project server application but not the proxy).
I promoted the server to domain controller and used a domain account for a complete sharepoint install and no problem whatsoever.
Not sure if the domain account was the issue but it resolved it (though now my notebook is a full AD, DNS server).
Regards.

Hi Sriram
Thanks it worked.
1 - I've uninstalled project server 2010.
2 - Configuration Wizard
3 - Disconected previous database
4 - Installed Project Server 2010
5 - Run Config Wizard gave me an error saying that he couldn't start the SpAdmin V4, i've googled and there was a guy saying to run:
%commonprogramfiles%\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\14\BIN\psconfig -cmd upgrade -inplace b2b -wait -force
and then change the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control add/modify STRING value WaitToKillServiceTimeout to 120000 (120 seconds)
6 - Rebooted the Server
7 - Run config Wizard again.
Voila!
After that just connected the database again, and it's working perfectly!
Thanks!

Facing the same problem. 'Disconnect previous database' --> Do you mean the content DB or which one?Monday, July 18, 2011 11:45 PM

Hi,
I have faced this problem too.
How I solved it, simply backup the existing web - 80 and delete the entire web - 80 with content DB from Central Admin. Then rerun the SharePoint Products Configuration Wizard again.
