Windows 7 Authentication Issue RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hey, I've had the copy of Windows 7 I'm running now for 4+ years now, and a while ago I did a serious overhaul of the computer's parts due to how outdated most of it was. However, not long after the OS began saying my copy wasn't genuine (I'm told because it thinks it's a different computer?), and I'm wondering if there's any way to fix this without spending another hundred on a brand new copy of windows I already own.

Here's the diagnostic, in case it's relevant:

  • You have an OEM SLP version of Windows 7 Home edition installed.  This version is only valid with the original PC manufacturer's motherboard installed.  Since you apparently changed the motherboard, the Windows 7 license is no longer valid and cannot be reactivated.  You will need to purchase a new Windows 7 Home edition license and then change the product key.
