Backup of a laptop RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am going to use WHS to do backups of my 3 PC's.  2 PC's are wired and my laptop is wireless.  I am going to wire the laptop for the initial backup.  After that, I plan on using wireless.  Since I turn the laptop off every night, I am going to run the backups during the evening while the laptop is on.  Will I still be able to use the laptop while the backups are occurring?  Is there a performance hit while the backups are occurring?  Assuming only minimal files are being changed, how long do the incremental backups take?

  • If the laptop has a modern processor (i.e. multicore) you probably won't notice the performance hit from running a backup. If it's older equipment, you will probably find it sluggish while a backup runs.
I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)
