Install connector to an existing user fails (from a clean install) RRS feed

  • Question

  • My computer crashed, and I rebuilt it.
I wanted a clean install, so I went back to a clean backup I had via "Complete PC Backup" (I had no WHS backup of a clean install)
This clean install does not have the Connector installed.
This backup is exactly my crashed computer, but from an earlier time (same name/domain... everything)
I figured I would just grab the files I want off my WHS backup, and restart the backup with my new clean machine
I have 10 users in WHS (the max)
When I try to reinstall the Connector, I get "You cannot install a new user because you have a max of 10"
--I cannot remove any of the user
--If I remove my account, the backups will get deleted.

I'm not installing a new user, I am re-connecting to an existing user.
I have tried the Restore CD, but it looks to only restore the entire computer, not files.

How can I install the connector to an existing user?
How can I get my files off the WHS backup?
I only want files, not a complete restore.

    Thanks,
    Brian

  • As far as Windows Home Server is concerned, you have a different computer. You can have a maximum of 10 computers joined to your server, and it sounds like you've hit that limit. As a workaround, you could restore files using some other computer that's already joined to the server, then remove the "old" computer and join the "new" computer.
I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)
