Error - Change made to windows, software not genuine... RRS feed

  • Question

I now have this error, however I have not recently installed any new programs.

The most recent install was Student Office 2007, which has been validated.

I installed the drivers for a SATA HD which I have put into a USB enclosure, and that is working.

I have run CHKDSK and found no problems.

    Suggestions would be appreciated.

  • Hello Aycee_uk,

In order to recieve the best support, we request all users initially go to http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/ and click the "Validate Windows" button. If there are any problems, look to the lower left of the page for a light gray error code similar to this [0xc004c4a8]. Record this code then run the Genuine Diagnostics tool at this link http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 , then click the Windows tab, click the "Copy" button, then paste the report and the error code, into a response message in this thread.

(Please note: Even if you are in reduced functionality mode, you can still run the Genuine Diagnostics tool.  When you login to Vista, a dialog window will come up. In that window, click the option "Access computer with reduced functionality". Once you do that, Internet Explorer or Firefox browser will open. type in http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 in the address field and hit enter. When the dialog comes up asking to "Save" or "Run", click "Run". Click 'Continue" then the Windows tab, click the "Copy" button.)

    Thank you,
