My product key doesn't work and I can't fix it. RRS feed

  • Question

  • I've read alot of the posts about this but trying what was suggested hasn't worked. I am having issues with activating my product key so I can use the MS office software (like everyone else).

Thing is, I read that if I installed it keyless (which may have happened cos I've wiped the computer a few times) I could then change the code by going to "computer" and following the prompts so then the codes would match when I opened up one of the Microsoft applications. Well, I've done that- but when I try to change the default code to my code- it says it's activated but going back to the "system" page it still hasn't changed at all, and the code still says the one with OEM. Which, is definitely not MY code.

I've had this issue from day one- I was able to fix it once, and then when I wiped it it had the same issue but I was able to somehow get through anyway- but now I'm not able to do a thing with Microsoft Word and it's annoying me since I need to fix my resume!

If I'm missing something- please fill me in. As I said, this is annoying. I bought my computer with Vista, I should be able to use the programs.

  • Hello Simone,

You appear to be confusing Microsoft Office with Microsoft Windows.  They are two different programs.

Window is the Operating System that all other programs and software are installed on.
    Office is a Productivity software.

Windows (Vista and Windows 7) can be Keyless installed. Office can not be keyless installed, either a Trial Key or a Valid Product Key must be entered at install.

Please Note, many computer makers will include a Trial version of Office on computers they sell.  After the trial period, however, to continue using Office the customer must buy a full version.
