    Problem Description:

When you attempt to sign in to the SharedView service, you receive the error:

Unable to contact the SharedView Service.

    Please try again later.

SharedView uses the Windows Live ID service for sign-in.  If you have proxy/firewall software installed, it may block the download of a configuration file (ppcrlconfig.bin) needed by the Windows Live ID service.

    Resolution:

The SharedView team is working on a solution for a future release.

    Workarounds:

Any ONE of the following workarounds should fix this issue:

    1.       Sign in to the Windows Live ID service using Windows Live Messenger.  You can install Messenger here: http://get.live.com/messenger. Once you sign in successfully using Messenger, the SharedView client will also be able to sign in.  The Messenger program downloads this file without your proxy/firewall software affecting the download.

    2.       Temporarily disable the content filter for .BIN files in your proxy/firewall software before you sign in to the SharedView service.  Once you have signed in successfully, re-enable the content filter.

    Thanks,

  • We fixed this so you shouldn't have to do this workaround anymore.  Can you sign in with MSN messenger?  We use the same method of signing into passport, so if Messenger is blocked as well, then your network is restricting access to passport, or the download of the passport token.
