Windows Xp Key Will Not Work RRS feed

    hello,

    i recently had to format my computer which i recieved from my father.  The computer is not real new and it came with windows 2000 i am guessing because when i formated it windows 2000 was put back on.  Not knowing how to really get around windows 2000 since my school laptop has windows vista i decided to use my windows xp upgrade disk my father had given me with the pc.  I went to use it and now i am stuck and cant use the computer that i need for work from home becuase it says key not valid.  i do not know what to do but i really need my computer with xp so i can use it. i would do vista but i can not afford anyhting like that right now.

    please help.
