I keep getting this message when I start my computer: .net framework initialization error. I looked at my add/delete programs and the .net framework is not listed there. Should it be? I also tried to do my Microsoft updates and got this message:Microsoft .NET Framework 1.0 Service Pack 3 Security Update for Windows XP Tablet PC and Media Center (KB953295) was needed. But the update failed. Are these two things related? What can I do about it? Is the .net framework necessary for my computer?
Thanks

1) .NET Fx 1.0 SP3 was shipped as part of WinXP SP2. You can easily verify it by looking for directory %WinDir%\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.0.3705 - it should contain many files. 2) If an update installation fails, troubleshoot it using the KB article, or contact Microsoft support. 3) Is the framework necessary on your computer? It depends if you have applications which use it. Also it depends if it is optional OS component (I don't know that for sure).
